BLUE LIFE ANDROS: HELMEPA's Educational Action in the Schools of Andros
A.M.K.E Friends of the Andros Festival, in the framework of the spring activities for the 10th anniversary of the Andros Festival, in cooperation with HELMEPA, presents to primary schools (4th, 5th, 6th grade) and high schools of the island the action BLUE LIFE ANDROS, from the 23rd to the 25th of April 2024.
In the framework of BLUE LIFE ANDROS, certified and specially trained HELMEPA staff will visit the schools that have accepted to join the action and will present/discuss with the students issues such as marine pollution, climate change, maritime professions, job prospects for young people in the blue economy, global sustainable development goals, etc.
More specifically, the presentations that will take place in the schools of Andros are:
▪ The sea is life
Presentation on the contribution of the marine environment to our lives, the dangers it faces and the ways to protect it.
▪ Sustainable Development
Information on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
▪ Marine professions
Presentation during which students will be given the opportunity to learn more about the ever-growing sector of the Blue Economy and the employment prospects in marine professions.
Program of BLUE LIFE ANDROS 23-25 April 2024
Tuesday 23 April-Now
The presentations will take place at the Municipal Theatre of Chora, at 09:30 for the Primary School of Chora and at 11:00 for the Secondary School of Chora.
This will be followed by a beach clean-up with the participation of the primary school students.
Wednesday 24 April-Wednesday 24 April-March
The presentation for the students of the primary schools of Gavrio and Batsi will take place at 09:30 at the Primary School of Gavrio.
At the secondary school of Gavrio, at 09:30 the presentation for the students of the secondary school of Gavrio will take place.
Afterwards, a team of divers will clean the bottom of the harbour in the presence of the students.
Thursday 25 April-Korthi
The presentations will take place at 09:30 for the Primary School of Korthi at the I. Glynos Conference Centre and at 11:45 for the Secondary School of Korthi, at the school premises.
This will be followed by a beach clean-up with the participation of the students.
A few words about HELMEPA
HELMEPA is the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association, one of the most historic environmental organisations, which for 41 years has been at the forefront of marine and coastal protection, maritime safety, and sustainable development and sustainability.
To date, more than 450,000 students have visited its exhibitions and 144,500 students (from 4,449 schools) have participated in 45,000 environmental activities, together with 9,293 teacher-volunteers.
With a view to the continuous inculcation of volunteerism and with the help of its emblematic Seagull as an ally, HELMEPA has coordinated 4,200 coastal and seabed clean-ups in cooperation with our member companies, schools, local authorities, port authorities, diving centres, cultural and sports clubs and environmental organisations.
