Gavrio Lighthouse
Gavrio Lighthouse in Andros
The Lighthouse of Gavrio is located on the hill of Kastri, on the edge of the port of Andros and welcomes the boats on their arrival on the island.
It was built in 1874 by the French Lighthouse Company and its lamp was binocular and emitted a fixed red, with an illumination of 5 miles and a focal height of 96 meters.
It is one of the 3 two-storey buildings, in the 144 stone lighthouses of the Greek lighthouse network, while it is the only one with the staircase outside the spit tower. Its Tower rises to 8 meters and the external staircase to the lamp climbs rotating around it. Access to the lighthouse is by road from Gavrio.
